I have some angry orchard hard cider, its a beer, i bought it like three weeks ago and they are still in the refrigerator and are all unopened, are they still good? Is cider actually beer? I'm really not sure about cider but beer usually has an expiration date or a born on date written somewhere on it. Look on the bottle or can for a date. But yeah, one year max and it will taste kind of flat after about months from the bottling date. Beer loses a lot of its carbonation after about 5 months of bottling.
Some bottle conditioned beers can last up to three years but most of the time you want to drink your beer within months of bottling.
If it has an expiration date, I usually won't buy it if it's within 3 months of the ex date. I don't know about Fat Tire, but the general rule is 3 months for cans, 6 months for bottles. Hard cider is a unique drink that puts a spin on a childhood classic, and gives drinkers an alternative to beer that is tasty, yet has the same alcohol content. So, does hard cider go bad? Here's what you should know if you can't remember how long your cider has been sitting on the shelf. According to top ciderests, cider can in fact be aged.
They can really be kept for years, but cider also gets drier over time. But be careful, because most ciders are made specifically for a shelf life of two years. Most ciders, if kept over their shelf life limit, will eventually yield cider vinegar—yuck. Like most other alcohol, hard cider also has a shelf limit. Shelf limits can be up to two years, but according to Angry Orchard, one of the most popular cider brands, their cider has a shelf life for up to 12 months.
Though alcohol technically does not 'go bad,' the flavor profile of the alcohol will change the longer the alcohol sits there. Cider is a hardy product and can tolerate swings of temperature as well as changes in light and time better than other alcohols, such as wine and beer. Just like beer, cider is meant to be enjoyed more at room temperature than ice cold.
The warmer a cider is, the more aromatic it is, and the more flavor will be packed into the cider, which gives it a stronger cider-y taste. However, if cider is stored in a warm location, it can change the flavor profile of the cider altogether, leading to the vinegar taste. If your cider smells slightly off, or if it tastes stronger or funkier than it normally does, try and remember the short shelf life because your cider may have gone bad.
But the answer to 'does hard cider go bad? So be careful and enjoy the cider while you can before its flavor changes. Coffee Tea Perfect for when you're Too Sober See All Drinks. Dining Hall Dorm Lyfe Perfect for when you're Broke See All How To.Thanks for visiting Consumerist.

Six months from the date of brewing, beer turns from inebriating mana into hobo swill.
A loaf of bread has it. So does a carton of milk. There are now more bottles of beer on the store wall than ever — more than 2, domestic brands alone — making it harder for both stores and consumers to steer clear of the stale stuff.
Age is critical: Nearly all beer begins to deteriorate before it even leaves the plant, partly due to oxygen in the bottle, and many experts say most brews are well past their prime after six months. To identify when bottles and cans need to be yanked from the shelves, many brewers imprint them with cryptic letters and numbers that distributors can translate. But with the help of industry insiders and analysts, we cracked the codes, studying bottles purchased across the country to determine the key dates for 18 big brews.
The way the code works is this. Letters from A-M represent the month of the year. The next four digits are the day and year the beer was first brewed, and the last two letters are the state code where it was brewed. So you may want to stay away from that fifty cent close-out special at the local liquor store marked MDE.
Oddly enough, Irish brews have clearly marked expiration dates… and our local off-license sells a variety of off-peak beers in foul-smelling wicker baskets for discount prices. While the rapid growth of craft beer has created a dynamic and constantly evolving marketplace with beers rotating faster than ever on store shelves, in some retail shops, beers still have a tendency to sit on shelves past their prime.
To help ensure a consistent experience for all consumers within their distribution footprint, some breweries use date codes. But, because there are no standards or requirements for indicating beer age, each brewery employs its own method for dating its beers. One of the most difficult tasks in checking beer freshness is locating the date code.
First, check the label. Breweries such as Sierra Nevada, Great Divide, and Odell clearly print the date code on a specific section of the label, which is often the same for all product lines. For bottles, date codes are often printed on the neck or shoulder the section just above the label. These codes are easiest to identify when they are printed in yellow or white ink on the bottle, but black or dark ink is not uncommon, so hold the bottle up to a light source to help you find the code.
Subscribe today! Some breweries elect to print their date codes on the four-pack or six-pack carriers or on the case carton. You can increase your odds by purchasing from stores that you know make an effort to stock fresh beer and stores that go through product reasonably fast.
Often, deciphering the date code can prove more difficult than locating it. The two most common types of date codes are packaging dates and shelf-life dates. These complex codes can vary greatly from brewery to brewery and may include the year, date, time, and sometimes even the tank or batch number.
To determine which part of the code refers to the date, your best bet is to check a resource such as Fresh Beer Only. These dates can also be referred to as pull dates because many breweries request that distributors and retailers pull beers from shelves and inventory if they are past the printed shelf-life date. Some breweries, including Firestone Walker and Stone, even have forms on their website for reporting expired beer.
Although the process of checking beer freshness can seem daunting at first, it will soon become a habitual, almost instinctive, practice when you shop for beer after you realize the impact it can have on your experience. Craft brewers go to painstaking lengths to create a product for you to enjoy, and you owe it to them—and to yourself—to ensure that you experience it the way they intended. Is This Beer Fresh?
Finding the Date Code One of the most difficult tasks in checking beer freshness is locating the date code. Next Up:.
